“Every Which Way” – an Abstract Painting Demonstration

Every week or so I upload a new painting demonstration to my YouTube channel.  Many of my supporters like to get a glimpse of how it’s done.  This week it’s “Every Which Way”,  a 27×27 abstract painting.

This painting has a metallic gold underpainting with a fairly neutral background but also has a punch of color so that combined with the form and palette lets your eye travel around the picture plane.  I work with layers  and layers of acrylic paint.  There are often 10 or more coats of paint.  I let them dry in between each application so that the next layer can reveal some of the underpainting.  To me, it’s not just a matter of applying paint but the removal as well so you get a peek of what lies beneath. It adds to the mystery and keeps you looking for more. What do you think?

  1. Love it! Do you use gesso for your white?

HI, Thanks for the comment. I use Nova Paint titanium white and buy it by the bucket.
